about

I wrote this song immediately after I came up with the opening chord. Something about the way it sounds with the slight dissonance really resonated with me. Instrumentally, the song went through many revisions until I was satisfied with the end result. It stayed untouched for almost a year when I knew what I wanted the words to be about. The lyrics are about the insecurities I developed after my first real relationship, and how those small idiosyncrasies affected my confidence with companionship in general.

lyrics

It's two o'clock and I'm not dreaming
About you, no, I'm over thinking
Things that should just stay in my past and leave.

I'm scared to death of the habits that broken
The first person that I fell in love with,
And how that might come between us both.

And if I thought for once what she taught me
Oh, the pain this pleasure brings
I would've learned by now.

I can't forget how lightly my sheets felt
After the salt stains dried and faded,
But the guilt still weighs down on my chest.

She's exactly why I can't trust myself
Being this close with someone else,
But I know that I have to work on it.

And if I thought for once what she taught me
Oh, the pain this pleasure brings
I would've learned by now.

And if I thought for once what she taught me
Oh, the pain this pleasure brings
I would've learned by now.
